Kik 8.8.1.2261
Kik doesn't need you to provide a phone number, but it also doesn't offer security features and might make some users feel exposed.
Some stability issues with the interface
The UI is quite intuitive, with a side menu that offers access to sections inside the app and to settings you can make. In addition, it has shortcuts to other apps and plugins you can download for Kik. Still, it doesn't come with instructions or a tutorial for showing new users how to navigate inside the app and use all its features.
The app has a separate section with recommended websites and apps, as well as new games and applications that users may download and play with. The side menu works like a browser, in the sense that it opens websites but it does have a rather long delay time and it's missing all the features that only a browser can offer.
Chat with friends
Since users don't need to type in their phone number, they can allow the app access to their contacts list and find friends on the network. Access the help section if you have any questions, but it will take you out of the app and open your browser, which doesn't really make sense, since Kik has the capacity of opening webpages.
Simply tap on the bubble to find people or start a group. Search for users by typing in their full username, as the app doesn't provide you with suggestions which can be a good thing as it means that random people won't message you.
It comes with emojis and in order to send a message you'll need to tap on the bubble. The app lets you change the chat bubble color. You can delete messages from your chats for enhanced security purposes but they will still remain on your friend's phone.
Share pictures and webpages
The app has some sharing options, users can access their gallery and send images or snap pictures and share them instantly. Messages are sent fast and the app shows you whether the recipient read or saw the image. You can also browse and send links to webpages inside the app. It also has the feature of recording videos and sharing them with friends.
Still, the app has some privacy issues as it seems that users may block people on the network but they can't make their profile private or change their username if they wish. In addition, the app records your location even if it doesn't really need it for any of its features. Also, users have no option of logging out of the network. The app also works on Android Wear devices.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The interface is quite simplistic, but the dark side menu doesn't really match the bright green messaging section. |
Function8
It works just fine, but it could use some more customization options for the messaging section. |
Security5
Users can't make their accounts private and it seems that developers should try to make the app more friendly for children. |
Battery4
Consumption is really high, so keep an eye on resources while using the app. |
Price7
It comes with ads to various websites and other apps and some in-app purchases. Unlock features for up to 20$. |
Compatibility8
It should work just fine on devices running Android version 4.0 or later, making it accessible to many users. |
It needs some more work and serious improvements in the security department.
