This tool will take you to all the places of interest near your current location and it also facilitates the exploration of far away locations through the built-in map.
Practical, yet unattractive interface
The application comes with a simple layout, especially designed for making things easier when it comes to searching for places and viewing the information attached to each of them. There are no customizations in sight and the graphics are mediocre.
For some of the locations discovered by World Explorer there are some relevant thumbnails shown inside the results list, but many are lacking those preview pics, as the data is fetched from Wikipedia and thus depends on that content. The advertisement banners are ever-present inside the app and keep on changing at the bottom of the screen.
Quick finder with online references for every place
Activating the location service will enable the app to provide a list with the most important attractions around your current position you might be interested in visiting. These points of interest are related mostly to the local history and culture.
Severely limited in terms of functionality, World Explorer doesn't allow you to access places from the search screen, open the full map or get GPS directions to get to a certain place. Nonetheless, you can choose the measurement unit for distance and decide whether you want to get only the articles written in English or not.
