Dull looks, bent on practicality
Thanks to a well organized layout that can accommodate a large flow of information, this app offers a decent experience, especially taking into consideration the fact that the actual appearance of the utility is not at all appealing.
Going through the numerous sections of SimpleRSS is a breeze and accessing the main commands is also simple, as most of them reside in the main menu hosted in the lower side of the screen.
When opening an article to read the story the white background can be somewhat wearisome to the eye, especially because there are only a few lines of text shown in there.
Find and add feeds to the monitoring list
The application doesn't come with any news sources by default so you will have to spend a few minutes inside the dedicated feed manager to populate the list by adding your own RSS feeds.
This operation can be done manually, by typing in the address of each feed or by using the dedicated search engine. An alternative is to import the sources from an OPML format file directly inside SimpleRSS.
Once you finish adding the news sources, each of them will receive a separate screen where the most recent 15 news articles are shown. Updating the feeds can be done with a single tap on the "Refresh" button. Also, you can change the feed order by dragging them into the desired position.
Read and share the articles on the go
With SimpleRSS you can look at only a small part of the full article, so you will have to use a lot the "Open in IE" function if you want to read the whole story at the source.
In case you care to share the most interesting articles with someone, you can use the dedicated function of the utility and send out the links through SMS or email messages, as well as via social networks.
