For anyone who is accustomed to read the news from their Windows Phone powered handset there are a few apps that are worth a try and SimpiRSS is one of them.
Decent appearance, focused on functionality
This application comes with a pretty simple look that favors practicality and makes visual appeal secondary. The content is well structured and offered in an easy to read manner, with images of good quality inside the articles.
Moving around the various areas of the utility is done seamlessly, with minimal delays when refreshing long lists of feeds, while the content of the selected articles is displayed promptly.
The app adapts very well to changes in orientation, so you can use it in both landscape and portrait modes. In case you want to lock the screen in either of the two modes, simply tap the corresponding button from the main menu hosted at the bottom of the screen.
A constant source of annoyance is represented by the continuously changing advertisement banners that appear when opening the articles inside SimpiRSS. Removing the ads is possible, but only after making a small payment.
Add feeds and manage them
The utility doesn't provide any news sources by default so it's up to you to populate the list by adding your own feeds. This operation can be done manually, using a dedicated web search engine or by importing the sources from an OPML format file.
All the RSS or Atom feeds you add can be edited in detail and you can even move them in some folders you create on the spot. The application even allows you to pick the reading voice for each of the selected feeds.
Read and share the news on the go
Each article you select from one of the sources listed inside SimpiRSS can be read in full, marked as favorite or shared. Insofar as the latter option is concerned, the app supports a wide variety of options, as numerous social networks, online services and other possibilities can be selected on the fly.
In case you want the utility to read out loud the loaded article, this is also a possibility you have at your disposal, while the support for podcasts and the integration with Pocket and Instapaper services is a welcomed plus.
In order to keep all the feeds safe, you can rely on the backup and restore feature that helps you transfer the data to your OneDrive account with ease, from the dedicated area of the "Settings" menu.
