Secure Files 1.0.0.9

Store your multimedia files and documents safely inside a virtual vault onto your phone
Preserving the privacy of personal files and data is of great value for many users, especially for those who have such details stored onto their mobile devices, as these seem to be more exposed than others to intrusions.

For those who want to safeguard the photos they've and stored onto their Windows Phone devices, Secure Files might be a valid choice, as it offers decent protection and can handle quite a few file types.

Convenient and straightforward GUI

This application comes with a pretty clean interface that has some well designed graphics and a neatly structured layout. The main commands and functions are easy to reach from the main menu hosted in the lower side of the screen.

Moving around the app and going through its menus and lists of stored items is fairly smooth, but there are some small delays when loading large numbers of photos or videos.

There is another visible drawback inside Secure Files and it is represented by the presence of some annoying ads that come in the form of some banners that appear inside most sections of the app, almost in the middle of the screen and hinder the view quite a bit.

Fast file import and access protection setup

Protecting the content can be done with a numeric PIN code, which you will have to setup from the first run, along with the details necessary for the password recovery, more precisely your name and a valid email address.

Adding images can be done inside the default album or in new ones you can create on the fly. You should note that the items you include in the virtual vault are moved in there and not just copied, so in case you remove them from Secure Files there's no getting them back.

For the videos, songs and documents there are no special folder you can generate, but the great thing about these items is that the application detects the compatible files automatically and offers them for selection as soon as you tap the "Add items" button.

Simple management commands and lost file recovery

With the photos and videos neatly stacked inside the corresponding containers you can rest assured they will no longer be visible inside their original folders. To send them back, you can simply make a selection and tap "Remove item".

Sometimes it may happen that some items you added to one of the sections of Secure Files will disappear for no reason, as it happened with the videos loaded during our tests.

Fortunately, the utility offers a "Files Recovery" feature that is accessible from the "Settings" area, so you will be able to get your files back in case they got lost while moving or the process has been interrupted in some way.

Bottom Line
Design / UI5

This utility has a rather unappealing interface, with common graphics and a lot of annoying ads that interfere with the way in which files are displayed.

Function6

The pretty basic protection and the inherent glitches in functionality may deter users from keeping the app after trying it out.

Security10

Having this application installed is perfectly safe because it is very discreet and doesn't look to access sensitive areas of the system.

Battery5

The utility will need a quite considerable amount of energy to function well, so the battery usage remains at high levels.

Price9

Free to use and with every function fully available, Secure Files has a very good value, with the exception of the pushy ad banners.

Compatibility8

Only users who have at their disposal a mobile device powered by Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to try out this app.
