Pocket Extractor 1.1.0.6
Pocket Extractor is one of the utilities that attempts to make it easier for you to open archived items and also help you pack files and create new archives of your own.
Plain and simple front-end, made only for practical use
When starting this app for the first time you will notice the lack of visually appealing elements form the design of the interface, which remains rather dull and clearly focused on functionality.
The commands and features can be accessed easily thanks to an efficiently organized layout, while the navigation through the various sections is as smooth as it can be. The archived files are displayed promptly, but there is a visible annoyance in the lower side of the screen represented by a banner that can be removed after purchasing the Pro Package.
Open several types of archives and extract the files on the spot
Pocket Extractor is able to handle some of the most common formats for compressed files, namely ZIP, TAR, RAR, 7z and GZ archives. Even if it claims to be able to open password protected ZIP files, this function doesn't seem to function for just any archive of this kind.
Extracting the contained files is a straightforward task, as you only have to choose the output location where to store the uncompressed data.
Integration with file explorer apps and fast ZIP creation
One of the best features of this app is the ability to enable other tools made for managing files on the phone to handle the archives it supports. This integration with Windows Phone is done automatically, upon installation, without requiring any intervention on your side.
Adding new files and folders to a fresh ZIP archive is another capability this utility displays, so you will be able to compress data stored on your phone in a few easy steps.

Bottom Line
Design / UI5
The overly simplified look of the application works against it, despite the good organization of the content and functions. Also, the banner shown at the bottom of the screen is not helping in this respect. |
Function7
The utility offers a good set of features, but some of them do not function correctly, while others are missing or could receive some improvements. |
Security9
Pocket Extractor is quite discreet as it doesn't access system areas that have nothing to do with its functionality. |
Battery7
The power consumption is a bit above average, especially when handling files from the online storage, which keeps the battery usage at moderate to high levels. |
Price8
The app brings a decent set of features and offers them free of cost, but there are some shortcomings, including the need to pay to remove the banner shown inside that decrease its value. |
Compatibility7
The user base for this utility is quite limited because only those who own a Windows Phone 8.1 handset will be able to install and use it. |
