Passphrase Generator 1.0.0.0

Create simple passcodes with letters, numbers and symbols right onto your Windows Phone
When creating a new account for an online service or when in other situations where adding a password is required to complete a registration process, you might have an easier time if they use a specialized tool that can create easy to remember passkeys.

Created to assist Windows Phone users who want to have a new pass quickly made, Passphrase Generator is one of the tools that is able to provide the necessary input on the fly.

Extremely simple and completely unadorned interface

This utility features a really basic design and there is no trace of visual attractiveness inside the GUI, as the front-end hosts only a couple of commands inside the almost empty main screen.

The code generated by the app is very easy to read, as there is plenty of room left for the password to be displayed. The configuration area is equally simple and all the modifications can be done with one or two taps, thanks to the efficient organization of the content.

One touch passkey creation and quick configuration

As most utilities of its kind, Passphrase Generator will only need a single tap on the main button to have a string of mingled letters and numbers shown in the main screen. The symbols that appear inside the password are the separators that divide the two words that are created each time you ask for a fresh passphrase.

Setting up the functioning parameters is a breeze, but while doing this you will notice some shortcomings of the app. More precisely, it can only use up to 4 numbers or symbols and this if you decide to assign a digit to the word separator or replace three letters, "e", "o" and "s" with symbols rather than the numbers from the default selection.

There is one more option you can activate, namely the capitalization mode, which can be in Pascal style, with the first letter always capitalized or in CamelCase style, where the second element of a compound construction (word or phrase) is preponderantly written with a capital letter.

Hits & Misses

hits

  • supports two types of capitalization for the compound words
  • minimal battery consumption

misses

  • very poorly designed GUI
  • weak encryption
  • very few customization options
  • cannot copy or save the generated output
Bottom Line
Design / UI2

The looks of this app are completely disappointing, lacking any elements of graphical design that could catch the eye even for a split second, so it loses a whole lot from the visual perspective.

Function4

There are too few customization options for the output to obtain stronger passwords and the passphrases cannot even be copied or saved.

Security10

Without going anywhere near any sensitive areas of the system this application remains very discreet and can be installed safely.

Battery9

Passphrase Generator is very light on the system resources, as it is barely noticeable when running, managing to keep the battery usage very low at all times.

Price6

The rather weak encoding of the passphrases and scarce customization options do not recommend this app for anyone who is looking for rock-solid encryption.

Compatibility9

Anyone interested in having a go at this utility can try it on a Windows Phone handset that is running at least version 7.5 of the operating system.
