One News Reader 1.3.0.0

Explore the news brought by several sources and made available inside one mobile app
Gathering information from more than one reference point is often the only way to get a complete picture of an event, so having multiple sources at one's disposal is quite desirable.

Windows Phone users can try out a variety of utilities made just for this purpose and one of those which offer quick access to many news providers is suggestively called One News Reader.

Practical look, with a common design

This app is less visually appealing as it is bent on functionality, so the plain graphics and lack of cool graphics are partially compensated through a convenient and easily accessible layout.

The functions are all kept at hand, inside the main menu hosted at the bottom of the screen, while the sidebar menu shown in the left side facilitates the access to the news sources.

A major source of discontent is represented by the presence of the advertisements that come as banners and in full screen, popping up with a high frequency, being doubled by prompts to try out third-party apps.

Pick the information source and browse the articles the go

With One News Reader you gain access to a wide variety of news providers and besides selecting them from the corresponding list, you can select the sources shown in there, but only after purchasing the full version.

There is no search function to help you look through all the listed sources, so you have to pen them one at a time and use their built-in functionality, where querying the article database is possible.

Keep the news and read them without an Internet connection

A great feature of this app, perhaps its main asset, is the ability to save any loaded article and make it available for offline reading from the dedicated section.

The pages are saved with the most important elements, namely text, images and links from the articles, but, unfortunately, you will not be able to remove items from the list of saved news, which might pile up inside the local storage.

Another useful option that comes by default activated prevents the screen from locking automatically, so you can go through longer articles without worrying that at some point you might have to unlock the device to continue reading.

Bottom Line
Design / UI4

The unappealing and dull GUI loses a lot not only because it is unattractive but due to the extremely intrusive adverts and prompts.

Function7

Users can browse several news sources and keep for offline reading articles, but sharing at least the links is not possible, while the selection of info providers is locked.

Security7

One News Reader looks inside several sensitive system areas even if they are not related in any way with its functionality.

Battery3

The massive amount of power needed by the application keeps the battery usage at very high values constantly.

Price7

Most of the features come free of cost, but activating the news source selection for the main list and removing the pesky ads require payment.

Compatibility9

The majority of Windows Phone users can try out this app as it runs well on any handset powered by version 8 or higher of the OS.
