MyRadar 2.8.2.0

Stay informed about the weather coming your way through a dedicated app for your Windows Phone
There are numerous applications designed to provide a lot of information regarding the current and upcoming weather conditions, but only few of them put the focus on the weather radar to allow you to view for yourself if a heavy storm is coming your way.

MyRadar is one of the apps that is able to do this, as its main purpose is to show the animated radar imagery and the temperatures for the contiguous United States.

Cleanand well organized front-end

The app has a pretty neat interface, that allows you to view the movement of the precipitation fronts overlying one of the 3 types of maps you can use as background.

The animation moves at a decent pace, but zooming in and moving across the map can be painfully slow. Also, the advertisements shown inside the app are not helping, as they interfere with the data being displayed.

Get weather data from several map view modes

MyRadar offers a lot of valuable weather information, but unfortunately it is limited to the United States and it doesn't even cover the whole U.S territory. However, for the areas it can handle, the precipitation and temperature data is accurate and up to date.

Some of the features like the severe weather alerts and hurricane tracker have to be purchased, so unless you pay for them, you will get only the radar, cloud and temperature info. Also, there are 3 types of maps you can opt for, namely the aerial, greyscale and road view.

  • displays advertisements that cover some of the map and radar imagery
  • moving across the map is very slow, especially when zooming in
Bottom Line
Design / UI7

The looks of this app are decent, with a bit of a letdown insofar as the animation and zoom features are concerned. The ads cover a portion of the map, the lower part of it more precisely and they can become really irritating as they keep on changing.

Function6

Thanks to the multiple ways of visualizing the U.S territory, users can get a clear idea about the areas where there is currently a cloud cover that usually suggests the presence of rain. The fact that the data is limited to the United States is a disadvantage this app has as compared to similar tools that provide more information for various areas of the world.

Security7

The application requires the location services to be active, but this is mandatory for the "my location" feature. On the other hand, it looks into some areas of the system where it shouldn't peek into, like the phone dialer or the owner and phone identities.

Battery7

The intensive usage of the battery is visible while MyRadar is running, but this is to be expected because it fetches all the data from the Internet and updates the information regularly.

Price8

Overall this app seems like a very good deal, but only of you live in or plan to visit one of the states it covers. The ads are another nuisance, as they interfere with the view of the map and of the radar images.

Compatibility9

Well suited to run on most Windows Phone devices as it needs version 7.5 and above of the operating system to be installed, the application only requires a standard screen resolution to function properly.

Editor's Review
VERY GOOD

Stay ahead of the storm if you are in the U.S.A.
