Lock & Hide 1.1.0.0

Safely store your digital pictures inside a secure application made for your Windows Phone
Many users are worried about their photo being stolen or accessed by unauthorized people who may gain access to their mobile devices, so they will be looking for a specialized tool to protect their valuable pics.

For those who want to safeguard the photos they've captured and stored onto their Windows Phone devices, Lock & Hide might be a valid choice, as it offers decent protection.

Less appealing and more practical interface

This utility has a rather unattractive look to it, as it doesn't come with stylish graphics or any other elements of visual design that could be seen as pleasing to the eye.

Nonetheless, it tries to compensate by offering a well organized layout, where the stored files and the main functions and commands are easy to access and use.

There is another visible drawback inside Lock & Hide and it is represented by the presence of some annoying ads that come in the form of some banners that seem stuck to the top side of the screen.

Password setup and quick import of the pics

The application asks you from the get-go to choose a passkey, but you can leave it blank for the moment and configure it once you are inside the app or even at a later time.

You should be very careful with the password because there is no way of accessing the protected items in case it is lost, so if you have no backup of those photos, they will be completely lost.

Adding images can be done inside any of the default albums or in new ones you can create o the fly. Lock & Hide is also able to host the images directly, without having them transferred in a directory of some sort.

Photo and video capture with secure storage

Among the few features of this app is the ability to record clips or take snapshots using the phone's built-in camera. With regard to the videos, these cannot be taken out of the utility as it lacks exporting capabilities for this type of files.

The images, on the other hand, can be exported to the "Saved Pictures" folder with a couple of taps once they are selected. A great thing, though, about the still capture is that all the pics you take with Lock & Hide are only show inside the app, so they are secured by default.

Hits & Misses

hits

  • keeps the pictures it takes only inside its secure storage
  • video capture ability

misses

  • cannot export the recorded video clips
  • ugly interface
  • is exposed when unlocked and accessed via the list of recently used apps
Bottom Line
Design / UI3

The appearance of this app is dull and lacking any visual appeal, not to forget the ugly ad banners that are constantly changing inside the GUI.

Function8

The utility offers a pretty safe way of keeping photos, is able to capture pics and videos, but lacks more advanced features. When left unlocked it can be accessed from the recently used apps list

Security7

Lock & Hide is pretty curious as it needs to access a lot of system areas unrelated to its actual functionality.

Battery7

The application will need a fair amount of power to function and the battery usage rarely passes beyond the moderate mark.

Price9

As it offers every feature without asking for anything in return, the app is a pretty good deal, the only problem being the pushy adverts.

Compatibility10

Pretty much any users with a Windows Phone handset can try out this utility as long as they have at least version 7.5 of the OS installed.
