Headline Tile 1.7.5.0

An RSS aggregator that displays the headline news from your favorite feeds onto the Start screen
Staying up to date with the latest news coming from your areas of interest can be made a lot more convenient with the help of a dedicated application that can retrieve all the titles and have them displayed onto your mobile device

One such utility is Headline Tile ans it is tailored especially for Windows Phone users, offering them quick access to the information published by their preferred sources.

Friendly and well organized GUI

The application offers a clean front-end, with simple graphics that work well together and create a smooth appearance. The content is kept well structured inside several sections, while the navigation among the various areas of the utility and through the news lists is fluent.

The controls are pretty well placed inside Headline Tile, but dragging the sliders and picking the colors is done with difficulty because of the poor responsiveness and long delays in making the selection.

Also on the downside are the numerous prompts to rate and review the app and especially the full screen ads that pop up unexpectedly.

Add the sources and customize the live tile

The first thing you should do when starting this application is to add the desired feeds and this can be done in two ways. The first and easiest method is to use the built-in search engine to look for the news feeds based on a keyword you input. Alternately you can type in or paste the URL address of the RSS.

When it comes to choosing the tile style options, you have a lot of configuration at your fingertips, starting with the options regarding the width and number of items. You can enable or deactivate the time stamps and the full title, pick the font size, color and weight also.

The background can be either transparent or use the theme color, while the margins can be adjusted using a set of slider controls, but these are also very hard to bring to the desired value.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7

The general appearance of Headline Tile is pretty good, but there are some drawbacks represented by the adverts, prompts and the difficult controls that make lose some good points here.

Function8

The app seems well prepared for the task it is supposed to carry out, offers a good deal of customizations, but has some functional limitations that can be removed with a purchase.

Security7

Without any connection to the actual functionality, the utility will require access to the owner and phone identities, as well as to some other areas of the system.

Battery6

The application uses quite a lot of power while running, so, in turn, the battery usage also reaches very high levels.

Price8

On the whole, this tool can be of good use for those who monitor a lot of news sources, but it has some mishaps and requires money to unlock all the functions, so the overall value decreases.

Compatibility8

Users who are wiling to take Headline Tile for a spin will be able to do this only on Windows Phone 8 and higher handsets.
