FlatWeather 1.1.1.2
Windows Phone users can try a wide assortment of dedicated apps that are able to present weather information in diverse ways and among them FlatWeather offers a tidy and uncluttered perspective over the current and upcoming conditions.
Clean interface, with a nice aspect
This particular application offers a nice GUI that features some neatly designed graphics that are consistent from end to end. The weather details are presented in a very well organized and easy to read manner.
The live tile you can pin to the Start screen brings more value to this app, as it has a nice transparent look by default, which can be modified to match the colors of the app if necessary.
Also, moving around among the menus and forecasts of FlatWeather is comfortable, without annoying lags in loading the information. Nonetheless, the experience is not completely free of nuisances.
Some flashing ad banners appear in certain areas of the application, while after a couple of uses you will be prompted at startup to leave a rating and a review.
Current weather details at a glance
The amount of information provided by this app is good, but its accuracy depends a lot on the location you select. For example, the temperature readings can be a bit off for certain places, while in other cases the weather status displayed by the utility is not updated to reflect the real conditions.
FlatWeather allows you to check out in one glimpse the general aspect and current temperature, the wind speed, as well as the sunrise and sunset times.
If you chose to let the app use the location services to receive the local weather info, you can deactivate this and use the manual selection from the "Settings" area, especially since in the free version only one location is monitored.
Upcoming conditions for the next hours and days
The utility offers a short forecast for the next hours, but the periods are broken into 3-hour intervals, so the accuracy is again relative. Here there are no other details than the general aspect of the weather.
If you go and check out the prognosis for the next 4 days, you will see the icon that represents the general aspect of the weather, but you will also get the expected minimum and maximum temperatures.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The appearance is pretty decent, but less appealing than many similar apps and there are the pesky adverts inside the GUI as well. |
Function6
The amount of details offered by this application is insufficient and there is also the limitation to a single monitored location. |
Security7
The utility tends to look into many areas of the system and only for some of them it has good reasons to do so. |
Battery3
With FlatWeather running continuously the battery will remain without a drop of energy in a relatively short while. |
Price8
Overall, the app offers a nice way of checking out the weather conditions, but has some limitations, displays ads and asks for a payment to remove all of them. |
Compatibility8
Only available for Windows Phone 8.1 and higher, the application doesn't have any other special requirements to run well. |
