Taking a quick note and putting it at hand may not be as easy as it sounds on all mobile devices, as Windows Phone users are well aware. Luckily, there are quite a few applications in the Store that can take care of this task.

Among the numerous tools available for this purpose in the Store, Flat Notes stands out as a versatile tool that covers several types of tasks that go beyond writing short notes.

Neatly organized layout, with personalization options

This utility is made to provide a seamless experience when writing and taking care of notes, so the interface reflects very well the focus on practicality.

The graphics are decent and you can add a personal touch by selecting the desired general theme, which can be either dark or light. Other options include the choice of the live tile and note live tile appearances and here you can go for the solid color or for the transparent option.

The items are hosted inside the main screen and you can pick the number of columns, between 1 and 4 to have the notes arranged accordingly.

Write simple notes, add photos and make checklists

Flat Notes comes well prepared for hosting numerous kinds of notes, but there are no categories or folders you can use. Nonetheless, for each entry you can assign a title, to make it easier to identify among the others.

The great thing about creating new notes is that you have the possibility to add pictures for each and every one of them. The images can be taken from the albums stored on your phone or you can simply capture a fresh snapshot and use that picture for the new note.

In case you need to remember the order of several steps of a certain process or you simply want to make a shopping list, you can rely on the "Checklist" feature provided by this application.

Effortless note management

When making new entries or editing existing ones, Flat Notes enables you to pick a color for the respective note, from the 8 available hues. This way you can easier group entries on the same topic, for example.

Pinning the notes to the Start screen is a one tap job, as the dedicated function is available in the main menu hosted at the bottom of the screen.

In case you want to set aside some of the entries shown in the main screen, you can archive them by swiping the notes and they will be sent automatically to the corresponding section of the app.

If you swipe a note from the "Archive" module it will not return to the main screen, as this action deletes it altogether from the database, so use it carefully.
