Diabetes Journal 1.0.0.0
There is a specialized Windows Phone app called Diabetes Journal that can be quite valuable for all users who want to keep a strict control over the glucose levels, carbohydrates intake and physical exercise.
Simple and practical layout
The looks of this utility are quite unattractive, as they lack any visually appealing element of design and black is the predominant color. On the other hand, the content is very well structured and shown in an easy to read manner, so this compensates a bit for the dullness of the GUI.
Going through the few sections of Diabetes Journal is smooth and without any delays or other kind of similar glitch, while the numbers load promptly when accessing the statistics.
A notable drawback is related to the presence of the advertisement banners that are constantly changing and flashing in the lower side of the screen.
Add new records on the fly
The application is able to store all the information you choose to add to its database, so keeping track of insulin and glucose levels is just as easy as monitoring the physical exercise and meals.
For every entry you create you will have to include the date and time, then add the glucose level, carb intake, insulin and exercise figures. These fields are not all mandatory and for every one of them you can include some quick notes.
The last thing you can do before exiting the data entry area of Diabetes Journal is to write down a comment and it will appear inside the main list right at the end of the respective record.
View stats based on the log entries you made
If you are mainly interested about the cold figures, accessing the "Numbers" module of the utility can provide some of the information you are looking to get.
More precisely, you will have right before your eyes the high and lows for the blood sugar levels and this info is split into several intervals that range from 7 days and go up to 90 days.
In order to have the log data purged periodically, you can head on to the "Settings" area of Diabetes Journal and choose the desired interval.
However, should you care to keep the logs and view them at a later time, there is an "Export" function that comes in handy, as it supports transferring the data to Dropbox or to a location on the mobile phone, including the SD card.

Bottom Line
Design / UI4
The interface has a rather uninspired design, completely unattractive and dull, with a lot of advertisements inside. |
Function8
This app provides a convenient method of monitoring the glucose levels, insulin and carb intake, while the ability to export data is most useful. |
Security7
For some reason, Diabetes Journal needs to look inside the owner identity, multimedia libraries and phone dialer system areas. |
Battery7
The utility will need a moderate to high amount of power, so the battery consumption is kept at decent levels. |
Price8
The feature set is completely free to enjoy, but the ad removal requires a payment and the price is quite steep compared to many similar tools. |
Compatibility8
Diabetes Journal can be installed and used only on Windows Phone 8.1 or higher handsets, without other requirements. |
