Clean and simple design
This application has a quite plain look, with the focus on the actual compass and lacking any visual enhancements. There are some visual themes that can be applied, but these become available only after buying the Pro version.
The compass dial and the needle move together and the adjustment of the position is done very promptly. Also, the data shown inside the main screen is written in a large font, making it easy to read. Once in a while, a prompt to rate the app will appear when Compass starts.
Choose which North to be used and get your bearings on the fly
This utility appears to be as simple as a regular compass you keep in your pocket or backpack, but its has a few aces up its sleeve. Even if most of its features are not available without a purchase, Compass still offers some neat functions like the ability to prevent the screen from locking.
Another option you have at your disposal from the "Settings" menu is to choose whether to use the True North or the Magnetic North for orientation. The location services can be safely deactivated because they are of no good use while you are using the free version of the app.
The heading and degrees that are necessary for navigation are shown inside the main screen, right above the compass dial, so you will always know in which direction you are currently going.
