Vine Kids 1.1.0

Vine Kids delivers age-appropriate content for small kids
There are a lot of social media sites out there, with some more popular than others. Tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine and others have managed to climb to the top of the popularity chart, while others are still at the bottom of the list.

Founded back in June 2012 and launched a few months later, Vine was acquired by Twitter in October 2012, which helped skyrocket the service’s popularity. The service, as you may know by now, allows users to record and edit six-second long looping videos, as well as to “revine” content shared by other people.

While this is all great for all users, the service is peppered with content that’s not so great for little kids. Varying from not safe for work content, to mature jokes, pranks and so on.

Built for kids

Vine Kids, however, was specifically built so that children can also enjoy the magic of Vine’s short videos. The app comes with a simplified interface that focuses on the vines dedicated to kids.

The screens are covered in drawings that will appeal to children and the characters are each holding up a video frame. Kids only have to swipe left and right to get to new content and there are additional features to talk about. Basically, this is the entire app – no settings, to sharing, no searching.

It’s a stripped down version that enables kids to enjoy some of the content that adults do. What’s more, every vine that’s in there has been hand-picked and approved for child viewing, which means parents don’t have to worry about their kids encountering age-inappropriate.

Easier for parents

There is plenty of content on the Internet that children should probably not be exposed to and Vine seeks to combat concerns that it is a service that’s not appropriate for a younger audience. At the same time, however, folks over at Vine are not arrogant enough to ignore the reality of the dangers Internet services pose to kids and has come up with an alternative that’s not only extremely easy to use, but also age-appropriate.

Talking of which, the app has been marked with a 4+ rating, but there’s a mention in there that it was built for kids ages 5 and under, which means that all youngsters can have some fun watching vines on their parents’ iPhones.

There's no indication on what older kids are supposed to use in this situation, but it's likely that until they're old enough to create their own account, actual Vine content may not be recommended.
