The weather can change quite quickly, but you don’t have to be unprepared for it all. More specifically, if you have an app on your phone to tell you just what to expect, things are going to be ok the entire day.

SunRain is an app that provides basic weather information so you know at a glance just what to expect when you step out of the house. The app is pretty simplistic, which, in a way, is a good thing since it’s very easy to navigate. On the other hand, simplistic also means that you won’t get as much information about the weather conditions as you are accustomed to with other apps.

Simple isn't always best

The app’s interface is minimal, consisting of two ribbons, a cute background and a bubble with the basic information, namely the number of degrees and the current weather condition.

The top ribbon includes more information about the day’s weather, including the wind speed, humidity levels, atmospheric pressure, visibility and sunrise and sunset times. The ribbon below includes more information about the next five days, including the forecasted weather and the top and the average temperatures for the days and nights ahead.

There are no menus to expand, no extra information to read, which isn’t necessarily ideal, especially when compared to other similar tools. After all, you can figure out if it’s raining and cold or it’s sunny and warm by opening the window for a minute before going out. There’s no hour to hour forecast for the day or any kind of additional data for the five days in the forecast at the bottom.

There are two extra buttons on the screen. The top left one enables you to refresh the data. The last time the information was updated can be viewed at the top of the screen.

Check the weather worldwide

It’s possible to check out any city in the world by tapping on the “plus” sign on the right top corner. You can check out any location as soon as the app fills in the suggestion and you tap on it.

Once again, it’s impossible not to compare SunRain with other weather apps. Instead of allowing you to keep those locations saved and to swipe between them so they’re always one gesture away, you have to go back to searching for them each time. Thankfully, the app at least keeps track of the cities you’ve looked for and you can just pick it up from the most recent list rather than have to type it all again.

Hopefully, SunRain will get a lot of improvements in the coming weeks and months since it’s a new app in the market.
