Playing on the stock market can bring a lot of extra cash in your pocket, but it can also make you lose a lot of your savings if you’re not careful.

That’s why it’s particularly important to keep track of all the stocks that you’ve invested in, but also any adjacent indexes that may affect the evolution of one of the companies you’ve bought stocks for. While having someone handle the entire portfolio in your place can be quite useful, many people choose to do things on their own, which means they need to have all the info at their disposal.

Quotes via Widget

Stocks Widget is an app that can deliver exactly that – the ability to track stock market portfolios and quotes on the go. It’s not just via the actual app that you can do this, but also via the Today notification center where you’ll have to enable the widget.

Until then, let’s talk about the app. The design is extremely simplistic and won’t take you a long time to get used to it. Basically, it’s a list with all the stock quotes you’re following. There are several up there already, namely the NASDAQ Composite, the S&P 500 and Dow Jones, as well as Apple. These can be removed at any time if you feel like they are not useful to you in any way. This is done after tapping the edit button on the right top corner and then the red delete button to the left of the quotes. You can also rearrange them if you want your main ones to be at the top.

Adding new quotes is extremely easy and, on top of telling the app to add a certain company to the list, you can also mention from the get go how many shares you own, how much a share costs, the buying and selling commissions.

Check your holdings

From the Holdings tab it’s possible to check out all the quotes that you’ve bought, which should help you get a better understanding of how much they’re losing value on certain days and so on.

The widget that comes with the app can be enabled from the Today notification center. You’ll just have to tap the Edit button and add the Stocks Widget to the list. Then, without even unlocking your phone, you can check the latest quotes and get a clear picture about how your stocks are doing and whether or not there’s something to be alarmed of.
