Best Phone Security 5.1

Friends and family will be afraid to touch your phone a second time
Want to work without fear that someone will tamper with your phone after leaving it in another room, for some reason? Try Best Phone Security. It plays an alarm if someone touches it, and even takes a photo of the intruder if you care to make an in-app purchase.

It wasn’t clear at first, but soon after Apple deployed iOS 7 everyone had to redesign their app to look modern and sleek. Not RV App Studios, though. These guys are clinging to their old, iOS 4 designs and we’re shaving off points for that. Moving on to what Best Phone

Not exactly an asset

Best Phone Security lets you set a four digit passcode lock and just leave your device on the table with its screen turned on. The screen goes dark, but it doesn’t shut down. This is because the app doesn’t work in the background, and needs to stay on constantly to sense if someone has touched the device. When someone does touch the device, including you, it plays an alarm. How exactly is this an asset you ask? We asked the same question and couldn’t answer it.

Pro version the goods

Worse still, every good feature this app has to offer is behind a paywall. In addition to sounding an alarm whenever someone touches the phone, Best Phone Security is able to capture an intruder’s photo and location, ring in the background, and can record and set custom alarm sounds.

As it stands, the free version is pretty useless. It’s also packed to the brim with ads and in-app purchase prompts, and even has one of those annoying built-in app stores that promotes the developer’s other apps.

Hits & Misses

hits

  • plays an alarm to scare whoever touches the phone
  • nosy friends and family will be frightened to touch your device a second time

misses

  • free version doesn’t tell you if someone has touched it in your absence (no log)
  • the device never locks and drains the battery
Bottom Line
Design / UI4

Primitive and counter-intuitive, not what you’d expect in this day and age.

Function4

Free version is pretty useless, even annoying. The pro app has all the good stuff, but it’s not really worth considering.

Security6

It does ad an extra layer of security to your device, albeit a very annoying one.

Battery4

Keeps the device constantly on, drains the battery fast.

Price4

Filled with in-app purchases, ads and app stores. Pro version has all the good stuff. There are other apps in the iTunes Store that do more for free.

Compatibility9

Works with all devices that can run iOS 5 or newer.
