The company doesn’t plan to update non-Xperia Z devices

Last year, Sony confirmed that all smartphones from its Xperia Z series would be getting the much hyped Android 5.0 Lollipop update. We are yet to see the new build arrive on any handsets so far, but Sony assures us that it is currently testing the new build.

Actually, a Sony Xperia Z3 was spotted on the grounds at MWC 2015 in Barcelona running on Lollipop, so we’d have to guess the roll-out is not far from us.

Well, while owners of the Xperia Z family of smartphones are avidly waiting to see Lollipop make an appearance on their devices, we have a bit of bad news for users of the non-Xperia Z bunch.

It appears Sony has confirmed on several instances that the Android 5.0 Lollipop will be going out only for the Xperia Z lineup.

That means that phones like the Xperia E3, Xperia E1, Xperia M2 Aqua, Xperia M2, Xperia C3, Xperia T3 or Xperia T2 Ultra will be left out in the cold, remaining stuck at Android 4.4 KitKat.

Who knows, maybe if enough non-Xperia Z users complain, Sony will come back to the decision and reconsider.

Sony’s latest non-Xperia Z phone, the M4 Aqua that just got unveiled at MWC 2015, does run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
