MX Player
MX Player is one of the most popular players that you'll ever find on Google Play Store and we can see why. It's packed with all sort of features for playing all sort of videos, adding subtitles and even locking your phone so that if your children are watching, they wouldn't be able to access any sections of your device.
Nice interface with much to offer
The app really has much to offer but it doesn't come with a tutorial to show users how to operate it and access all of its features. Still, there's a really comprehensive settings menu which lets you make many changes to the UI, including to change the theme and mark last played media in each folder.
The app doesn't take long to scan all files on your device and display all videos into a list, together with the folders they belong to. You can also select file extensions and show hidden files and folders.
Play all sort of videos
The app plays various video formats and supports many types of subtitles, you can also make changes to subtitles and modify their color and the character encoding. The app also lets you change subtitle alignment, padding and background color, or switch to another font.
Users have the option of changing the style of the player and screen orientation or brightness, although the latter changes can be done in the player mode using gestures. You can also lock the screen while playing, the app comes with three screen lock options one of them is for parents to secure their phones.
Additional features
MX Player has a feature that lets you stream any videos from a website, simply by typing in the address in a bar. However, the player doesn't support Chromecast, which means that you won't be able to view videos on your TV. Still, it comes with a hardware acceleration decoder for playing videos faster.
The app also has a decoder that lets you boost volume by 200% or fade volume on start or seek. All in all, it's one of the most popular players on Google Play Store and we can see why but it desperately needs Chromecast support.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
The interface is okay and it comes with plenty of features for personalizing the app and changing colors of players. |
Function8
It works just fine, although it doesn't support that many video formats or Chromecast which is quite inconvenient or a player. |
Security9
It doesn't need that many permissions so it shouldn't really pose any privacy issues. |
Battery8
Consumption is normal as for any video player app, so it's best to keep your phone plugged in. |
Price8
It comes with ads, sometimes even in player mode when video is paused and there's no option of removing them. |
Compatibility7
The developer didn't mention Android versions compatible with this app. |
It's a nice video player app but it lacks one essential feature and that is Chromecast support.
