Lumosity 1.1.3727

Train your brain and develop your skills with this really nice app
There are many applications that help train your brain and develop certain soft skills. One of them is Luminosity. It's a bit different than other brain training apps but it's great and provides you with plenty of ways in which you can help improve your abilities, while having fun at the same times. Obviously, the app relies on users going through a program with daily games and an initial assessment.

Sleek and nice interface that makes good use of animation

The app launches with a tutorial showing new users how the app can improve their memory, attention, flexibility, speed and problem solving skills. It states that the app is developed by neuroscientists and collaborates with researchers from 36 top universities worldwide, so it uses cognitive tasks to create fun, challenging games.

But before you can get started, you'll need to create an account, tell the app your goals, take a test and get a personalized training program. You'll need to sign up with Facebook or an email address, you'll also need to provide your birthday, education level and gender.

Assess your skill level

The training program starts with a fit test, three games will calculate your baseline but firstly you'll take a test to access your information processing, the initial identification and analysis of incoming sensory input.

One of the test assess your spatial recall, a form of memory involved on tracking location and position within an environment and none that tests your flexibility in the process of adapting to changing circumstances. The app has a tutorial before each game, as to make sure you've understood the instructions before you start playing the game.

Get a personalized training program

The app provides you with a personalized training program that includes daily workouts with a mix of games, scientific games adapted to your skill level so you'll always be challenged and performance tracking, mainly insights into your progress throughout your journey.

But the app isn't completely free, if you wish to unlock access to all of its features, including up to 21 games per day and compared results with others, you'll need to purchase a plan.

Prices reach 5.00$ per month. Still, the free version offers plenty of features, including one for calculating your Luminosity Performance Index, a standardized scale calculated from all of your game scores. But you'll have to patient to get that since it can only be displayed after you've completed 5 games, once for each Brain Area.

The interface is really nice and it makes good use of animation and visual effects, providing users with all the tools they need to assess skills.

Function8

It takes a while to complete the setup and create an account, while the app doesn't really offer much after you've completed your daily tests.

Security8

It doesn't need that many permissions but it does want a lot of personal information in order to compare your results with other users.

Battery8

Considering that it uses animation it may take a toll on your battery resources, but consumption is lower than for other brain training apps.

Price8

It's not completely free, to gain access to all tests, you'll need to upgrade to a premium account for 5.00$ per month.

Compatibility8

It only works on devices running Android version 4.0 or later, making it inaccessible to some users.

Editor's Review
VERY GOOD

It's a really nice brain training app, but a bit costly and with few options for free users.
