IKEA 1.9.4
Intuitive UI that resembles the website
As expected, the app's interface is almost identical to the website's, coming in the trademark blue, yellow and white colors. The app doesn't come with instructions, but if you've ever visited the website than you wouldn't need them. All sections are neatly arranged in the home page, together with settings on the bottom right corner.
You can also see the list of product recalls, but that takes you out of the app. As does the Ikea Catalogue, but you do have the option of downloading it from Play Store. In fact, there are many sections that take you out of the app, including when you wish to register with an account.
Select your location and start browsing
The next step with using the app is to select your location. Tap on a product category or use the search bar to find items fast. As expected, products come with all sorts of information and you can check product availability in stores near you, but the app doesn't open a map and you have to select the store by hand.
Items can be shared on social networks. Once you've found the product, you can add it to your shopping list and check it on your computer or other devices. But one of the app's shortcomings is that it doesn't allow users to change units of measurement, from metric to imperial.
Get special offers and check out Ikea events
Another features in this app is the scanner that lets you check product description and prices in stores, simply by scanning the bar code of an item. The app comes with a section filled with offers available only for app users.
There are also articles with new collections and programs, but each of them takes you out of the app to the Ikea website, again. This may become annoying and only proves that the app isn't continuously updated and improved, as it should be.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The interface is very similar to that of the website, but with fewer sections and no instructions of use. |
Function5
There's no fluency in this app, almost every section opens the browser and users can change the units of measurements for certain products. In addition, the app doesn't come with a feature to track orders. |
Security8
The app doesn't need many permissions from your phone, but it's unclear why it accesses your location since it doesn't come with maps to the nearest stores. |
Battery6
Battery consumption is slightly higher than for other similar apps and it can actually cause your phone to heat up. |
Price8
It doesn't come with ads, but that's common for retailer apps. Users must download a separate app to have access to the Ikea catalog. |
Compatibility8
The app should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.2 or later. |
Good for shopping, but it needs more work.
