Dark Horse Comics launched their very own app that lets you buy or download free comics and read them directly on your Android smartphone.
Sleek interface, perfect for reading comics
Dark Horse Comics sports an intuitive and lightweight interface that lets you browse through entire collections of comics and read them on your phone. But before you can get to the section with comics, you'll have to sign in or register with an account.
It doesn't provide connection with Facebook or Twitter, so you'll have to use your email address to create an account within the company. The app doesn't come with instructions or a tutorial, although new users would have found tips quite useful especially in the reading section, as some functions are performed using gestures.
Browse through all sorts of comics
The app opens with your own bookshelf, featuring suggested collections of comics that you can download on your device and the actual series that you've saved on the phone. Tap on one and start reading, once you've saved the file you can access it without internet connection making it available anywhere you are.
The store is filled with all sorts of comics you can check out, including Star Wars, Mass Effect, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity and manga. There's a section with suggested comics, one with the new releases and one with free content. All series are arranged alphabetically to make it easy to find them and you can even use the search bar but it doesn't come with auto-fill function.
Read all sorts of comics
All comics come in HD and the app lets you pinch the screen and zoom on any section. Actually if you tap the screen once it shows you the number of the page and if you tap it twice it changes the reading mode into panel zoom or full-page mode. Swipe to get to the next page and continue reading.
Users also have the option of sharing comics on social networks or tweaking settings to their preferences. You have the option of setting the app to only download content on WiFi connections or to choose the destination file. You can also have the catalog and collections sync on mobile data networks.
