xCrypto 2.1.0.1
For those who are trying out several apps that offer password-based protection and encryption on the go, xCrypto for Windows Phone is worth a go, mainly because it provides great ease of use seems to have in store some neat functions.
Nicely done GUI, with a smart layout
Through a clean and unadorned interface this utility makes it possible to easily go through all the sections and add the usernames and passwords, as well as other type of information you want to safeguard.
The professional looking front-end is coupled with a well-thought-out layout that puts at your fingertips all the functions and commands.
Besides the buttons available from the menu hosted at the bottom of the screen, you have a sidebar menu that can be activated wit one tap. This one holds the quick links to all the sections of the app where your personal info is stored.
Create new entries on the fly
Adding fresh records in the application's database is a breeze and you can include several types of information. More precisely, you can store application, bank, card and website accounts, each with its specific data input options.
Every entry you create can be encoded with either AES encryption or using the xCrypto proprietary method. When it comes to deciphering the protected content things are equally easy, as the utility offers dedicated modules for each task.
A major source of discontent is the fact that the utility doesn't prompt for the access code when invoked from the list of recently used apps and to close it properly you have to tap the "X" button from that specific list.
Password generator and extra options at a glance
xCrypto comes with its own tool for creating complex passwords and it can generate passcodes up to 25 characters in length. The passwords may contain uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers as well as special characters.
As soon as the code is generated by the application you can have it added to an account by tapping the "Save" button from the generator screen.
This utility also includes an authenticator module, but adding accounts in there is a bit tricky, as this is possible only for the website accounts you activated the 2-Step verification procedure.
The codes created here have a short lifespan, as they are renewed automatically at regular time intervals, which makes for increased security.
