One of the most promising utilities of this kind, that offers a lot more features and customizations than the default Windows Phone player is SonicXbeat and if you like to have at your disposal plenty of personalization options and cool features, you can give it a go.
Stylish and customizable interface
The application comes with a really nice looking GUI that features some skillfully designed graphics and animations that come into effect while the playback is active.
You can add your personal touch to the appearance by selecting the background image from the built-in gallery, from your photo library or by using album art or letting colors modify randomly.
Quick access to all the functions and commands
Most of the controls are conveniently placed in the lower part of the screen, while the main menu and other sections can be accessed by swiping left or right.
In the upper side of the screen resides a quick access toolbar that allows yo to get with one tap in the artists, genres, albums or songs sections.
A nuisance that you will experience mostly while inside the various menus of the app is the presence of some animated ad banners that are constantly changing.
Useful playback options and smart search
SonicXbeat automatically scans your music collection and enables you to browse it on the fly, while also providing a handy search-as-you-type function to help you instantly get to the songs you are looking for. Besides the usual buttons for controlling the playback, this app features shuffle and repeat functions.
You can view the elapsed and remaining time inside the animation that takes up most of the screen, but you can also see how much time is left or for how long a song is playing just by looking at the ring that surrounds the Play/pause button.
Extra features for a better experience
Inside the main menu of SonicXbeat you will find a neat Glance Screen function that is still in development, but which seems to work pretty well as-is. It will bring up a great looking animated background, with live info concerning the currently playing track.
By swiping left or right at the bottom of this screen will make the playback controls come into view and you can hide them in the same manner.
The "Sleep Mode" offers a neat timer you can use to set the interval after which the music will cease playing and there is even a dedicated "Stop Music" button in the main menu.
