Private Explorer 1.2.0.1
In case you want to experience this for yourself, you can resort to an app like Private Explorer that will not keep any hint of visited webpage onto your Windows Phone.
Very simple and clean layout for a smooth browsing experience
This utility comes with a quite plain interface, unadorned and lacking attractive elements of design, with the custom favorite website icons being the only patches of color inside the main screen.
You can have two types of tiles for this application pinned to the Start screen, the default one, with the colored look or the transparent tile that is also quite nice looking.
The layout of Private Explorer is fairly well drawn, with plenty of room for adding several bookmarks and a generous space reserved for loading the webpages you want to browse. On the downside, the ad banners displayed in the upper side of the screen are quite irritating.
Simple navigation, with some useful extras
This application features a set of basic commands that will enable you to move back and forth or reload a webpage. In case you want to open a different website, by tapping the "+" button from the main menu you will bring up the box where you can type the URL.
In case you want to keep the current screen orientation, there is a button to lock it in place, so you can preserve the portrait or landscape layout.
Add and manage favorites with ease
Inside the home screen you have the possibility to quickly add new links and keep them at hand, for quick access. Each webpage can be tested before being added, so you can be sure that the address is working.
Choosing one of the built-in icons to be associated with the freshly added bookmark will make for a more colorful home screen, but you cannot use images of your own or edit the entries after they are created.

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
The look of Private Explorer is rather plain, lacking visuals that would catch the eye or any customizations for the interface. The ad banners are also a visible nuisance that works against the app. |
Function9
The ability to host favorite websites, protect the access to the application with a password and the lock screen ability are the highlights that make this utility score very well functionality-wise. |
Security7
Even if the app doesn't keep any trace of browsing data, it needs to look into secure areas of the system, such as the phone dialer, owner and phone identities without a good reason. |
Battery6
While it is running, Private Explorer drains a significant amount of power, keeping the battery usage at high levels. |
Price8
This tool is pretty good at keeping the privacy of the browsing sessions, but has some shortcomings related to security and adverts that prevent it from scoring better in this respect. |
Compatibility8
Tailored for use on the more recent Windows Phone handsets, the application needs at least version 8 of the operating system to be installed onto the target device. |
