There are many utilities in the Store quite well prepared for undertaking such tasks and Pictures Lab is one of them. It offers a very simple way of going through the customization process and plenty of tools to tinker with.

Functional and well organized layout

The looks of this utility are pretty nice, with decent graphics and all the functions kept at hand, so as to have them easy to reach and put to good use. Also, going through the lists of effects and other enhancements is smooth and without any glitches.

The preview area for the loaded pictures is generous and quite enough to help you make an idea about how the output image will look like with all the enhancements in place.

Capture or load pics to edit on the go

Pictures Lab is able to use any of the images you keep inside your dedicated folders onto your local storage and you can also use it to acquire new snapshots from the phone's built-in camera(s).

It offers you a pretty neat set of assistants, like the steady detection, face focus and the live grid, while being able to use both front-facing and rear cameras. In fact, you can use the utility as a camera app as well, by pinning to the Start screen the shortcut tile for the camera mode.

After loading an image stored onto the handset or taking a fresh snapshot with the phone camera, the customization features will become active and ready for use.

The utility comes with several cropping, resizing and orientation adjustments that will enable you to perform the initial image modifications.

Image enhancements at a glance

There are plenty of effects to choose from and most of them can be characterized as artistic, while a considerable smaller number are more related to the enhancement of certain image parameters.

A decent set of borders is also included in the package, so you can give a more special look to the selected photo. In case you want to revert the filter changes simply tap the "Reset effects" function from the main menu.

Save and share the pics you modify

With Pictures Lab you will be able to post your edited images to a variety of online services, send them to your friends via email and even share them through the NFC feature, if your Windows Phone is equipped with it.

Unfortunately, the trial version has all the saving and sharing functions disabled, so in order to keep your work and make it public you will have to purchase the full version.
