Media Browser 8.0.66.1
If you are a Windows Phone user, you can try out for such purposes Media Browser, a client app that requires you to install the corresponding server onto the PC in order to be able to browse and play the content stored onto that computer.
Cool looking GUI, with a very practical design
This application comes with a beautifully crafted interface, where the inspired background images blend perfectly with the nicely drawn graphics that are consistent all through the utility.
The navigation inside the app is very smooth, with seamless transitions from one menu or section into the other and lacking any delays or similar glitches.
The playback quality is customizable, so you can even enjoy Full HD movies onto your mobile device, if it supports 1080p video resolution.
Easily connect to the server to explore the media files
With Media Browser you can easily go through the entire video, image and audio collection made available on the server, as soon as you establish a connection.
This can be achieved either manually, by providing the server details in the corresponding area, or by having the app detect the servers running on your local network and picking the one you want to access.
Once you input the required credentials, you will be able to explore the files stored in the shared folders and play music and movies or look at the digital pictures.
Uploading the images stored onto your phone is possible, but you will have to enable the device on the server and make a few configuration before the background transfers can be carried out.
Seamless playback and remote control capabilities
For each selected movie the application will offer some details if any are available, like the release date, rating or running time and you can even access the IMDb page of the film, if it is listed there. Unfortunately, you can only play a single video file per day, as many times as you wish, but only the same movie.
The music collection is structured in a familiar manner, so you can browse the tracks by artist, album, genre or song name. Playing the audio files is very easy to do and you can make playlists to listen to the preferred songs in any order you like.
In the trial version, Media Browser offers you the possibility to control only the Web interface of the server from your mobile device, so you can select a movie file, for instance, and have it play on the PC running the active server.
