Date: 01 Feb 2006, 19:09 GMT | For a PDA, an exceptional design with large feature set. Driven by MS Windows, it is capable of almost anything, including built-in GPS. There is a fair amount of available software, both free and fee.
IMHO, as a phone it lacks expected user-friendly features. It does have speed dial, but it is not convenient to use it. It currently has no voice command capabilities. It has great picture capabilities, but no way to link a picture to caller id; several Bluetooth connectivity options, but it takes a few clicks of the stylus (yes, stylus) to activate a headset. It is possible to dial the phone by thumb from the QWERTY keyboard, or with a stylus or possibly a fingernail, but it takes two hands – one to hold the iPAQ, the other to dial. Without voice commands to dial or answer, it is not a hands free device, so it is not practical for use while driving, even if only to receive calls. Someone will create the software, but it is not here now.
My iPAQ experienced some sort of glitch. I took it back to the store twice for SIM card replacement and once to replace the unit itself. For me, I need a user-friendly phone with Internet and email capabilities. IMHO, this is a PC with an undersized user interface and a minimally featured phone. Very nice if your primary use is for a PDA, not so nice if your primary use is for a phone. |
