Date: 27 Mar 2008, 18:16 GMT | Well it has past one year since i bought this mobile phone. I bought it when BenQ-Siemens was gone for good, but i have always been a Siemens phones fan, and the thing it capture my atention was itīs design wich i believe it won an IF award design.
For those who donīt know Siemens sold itīs mobile division to BenQ, so BenQ took over the lead, while Siemens still produced over 2006 their mobile phones, : S68; EF81; M81; EL71; C81 and the E71, meanwhile the rest of the range was entirely produced by BenQ, like this S88.
First of all this is a BenQ made phone, so the only thing whis resemble Siemens is the brand logo BenQ-Siemens. Itīs software itīs good but like all mobile phones has itīs short comings.
If you ever managed with a Samsung phone youīll be very pleased because itīs very simliar, so donīt expect anything simliar with the old Siemens phones...
The phone itīs self, is very solid and well built, no creacks or cheap plastic feel in your hands, will last for ever. It has a great display OLED type, wich unlike TFT, consums less energy and produces real colours and contrast, looks like you are in the picture itīs amazing really, so you can take the advantage of the good 2MP camera with autofocus.
The whole navigation is made buy the central joystic, and the keypad is good and it can be used in the menus.
if you like sound, this phone has an excelent speaker wich can be used to play your favourit mp3 tunes, and youīll hardly miss a call.
What i donīt like:
Sometimes the phone is slow, wich BenQ never released a new update to fix this, so when your typing sms sometimes it can be a bit slow, or if youīre used to use the green key to see the last dialed numbers youīll have to wait almoust 4seconds to see the dialed numbers!!The same happens with the shourtcut list wich can be very annoying. If youīre a java lover, i must warn you that many aplicattions simply donīt work in this phone. Also the search metod of the phone book only allow you to press the first letter so if you want to search the entire name you have to access the menu then search in the phonebook menu.
Conclusion:
My rating is 4/5 stars, itīs not a perfect phone, but theres no such thing as a perfect phone, but if youīre looking for a well built and designed phone, with a great screen and camera, with a good bunch of functions like mp3player, mircosdcard slot, and you donīt demand too much of a phone this is the right phone for you. The software unlike siemens is very reliable, youīll get plenty quality for the money.
If you do care to much in sms, java or mp3 player (wich is basic), and moust importantly youīre very impatient well i must advise you to look for another phone. |
