Stickered for Messenger 2.0
The userbase was none too happy earlier this year when Facebook announced its plans to split the messaging feature from the main app based on the idea that each mobile app should perform only one task perfectly. Mumbling and grumping, hundreds of millions of people started using Facebook Messenger as the in-app feature on Facebook was slowly shut off.
Now, the company is taking things a step further, bringing the stickers that we’ve all become so fond of, which were introduced first in Messenger and then into the regular commenting system on the platform, into a separate app.
Sticker it up
What does this new app do? Well, it adds stickers to photos you’ve already taken and can be found on your phone or to new ones that you’re only just taking.
The app itself is pretty simple and you can definitely have some fun with it. Since we’re on the topic, I should also mention that it’s also a bit bizarre. That’s because you’re basically adding these stickers over someone’s face, or fitting them in next to people in photographs.
So, as you launch the app, it will request access to your camera. In a second, you’ll be seeing yourself with a big sticker over your face since the front camera is the one that gets activated.
Once you’re over the initial “shock” you’ll notice the extra buttons in the corners of the screen. You can, thankfully, flip the app to the back camera so this doesn’t just turn into a way to take freaky selfies.
So many collections to choose from
The plus button at the top right corner will give you access to all the sticker collections from Facebook. You can add any of these and as many as you want. Removing one item from the screen can be done quite easily – tap on it and you’ll notice a smaller version at the top of the page, next to a trash bin. Tap on the bin and say goodbye to it. Alternatively, you can even drag and drop it to the bin and you’ll get the same results.
It’s possible to add these stickers before or after you’ve taken a picture, each of the options having its benefits. As mentioned, it’s also possible to add pictures from your Camera Roll and add stickers to those.
Once the picture is complete, the middle button that served as the camera trigger turns into the Facebook Messenger button allowing you to send the photo via the messaging service to whomever you want.
All in all, this is a cute app, albeit a bit creepy due to some of the stickers available. Either way, it’s just another slice of fun that Facebook is pushing to its users right ahead of the Holidays.
