Skitch 3.3
An expert in productivity solutions, Evernote is offering Skitch free of charge. Not all features are free, though. For some of the most serious annotations, you’ll need to cough up some cash and make an in-app purchase.
Best in class
Evernote is not only an expert in user experience, but also an expert in design. Well, the two go hand in hand, so it’s really no surprise. Case in point, Skitch has one awesome interface for a productivity app.
The menus glide under your fingers, there’s transparency where you need it, retractible menus so that they don’t take up unnecessary space on the display, and the settings pane is conveniently placed at the end of the tools list, not behind some ever-present button in one of the screen’s corners. It’s really well thought out.
Snap it, mark it up, whisk it away
The purpose of Skitch is to make it easy to snap a photo, load one up from your camera roll, or take a screen grab of a web site, and annotate the content with arrows, text, shapes, stamps, or emoticons. These can be moved around the picture, resized, written on, etc.
There’s also the ability to draw something up on a blank canvas - so basically, you’re getting a free drawing app inside Skitch - as well as the option to annotate PDFs, which not surprisingly is a paid commodity.
For fun, work, school, events
Skitch doesn’t just exist for productivity purposes. You can employ it just for fun, by taking selfies and drawing stuff around your head, or annotating a picture you took at the beach, etc.
You can use it at home, as Evernote itself suggests, to “annotate photos of your backyard to plan out your vegetable garden.” You can use it on a trip to annotate maps and send them to the party lagging behind on the road. Finally, students and teachers can leverage Skitch at school to annotate diagrams and charts.

Bottom Line
Design / UI10
One of the best in its class, Skitch is the perfect example of productivity-meets-design. |
Function10
Probably the best annotation tool in the App Store. Doesn’t lack a thing, and most of it is free. |
Security9
Has a bunch of cloud-centric features, as well as social ties. It’s as secure as you make it. Also, because it has a built-in browser, it’s accurately targeted at the 17+ population. |
Battery6
Skitch is a battery drainer. It’s somewhat understandable because it works with multiple layers of graphics at once. |
Price10
Despite charging customers from $1.99 to $44.99 for various premium features, the Skitch app we’ve reviews is more than worth your download. And the price is most likely right for those who employ its full set of features for business purposes. |
Compatibility8
Requires iOS 7 and works natively with both iPhone and iPad. |
An amazing tool for any situation where you might need to mark up a picture.
