No word of when we’re going to see Lollipop yet

While most smartphone manufacturers are updating their devices to Android 5.1 Lollipop or at least Android 5.0 Lollipop, some device makers are pretty far behind.

For example, Xiaomi has started the global rollout of the stable MIUI 6 update for its Redmi 1S smartphone, after having released the beta version a while back.

Even though the company produced MIUI 6 last year, only a handful of the company’s devices, including the Mi4, Mi3, Redmi Note, Redmi 2 and MiPad, run this particular ROM.

MIUI 6 is based on Android 4.4 KitKat, and the company hasn’t said anything about when it plans to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. At this rate, we might as well assume that Xiaomi will choose to jump to Android M directly and skip the sweet Lollipop altogether.

The MIUI will add a new notification center with toggles for music control panel, notifications for new messages, missed calls, reminders, app notices and more. For the full changelog, check below.

The new update for the Redmi 1S arrives as MIUI V6.6.1.0.KHCMICF and is 642MB in size, so you should be careful to have your phone charged over 50% before you start downloading the update.

If you can’t wait until the OTA hits, there’s also the option of downloading the ROM and manually flash it.
