Xiaomi is preparing a new version of its popular Mi4i middle-range device, the Mi4c, which will be launching on the Chinese market on September 22. The new version comes with slightly better specs and should be offered with a super affordable price tag.

While we wait for the Chinese device maker to make an announcement on the matter, a bunch of extra details related to the phone have been unveiled for our pleasure. According to a report coming out of Gizmodo India, the Mi4c will come with a feature that has become obsolete in modern day smartphones: an infrared port.

Infrared ports were used back in the day to transfer files between two phones with the feature enabled. So you might wonder why Xiaomi is choosing to bring back this feature into the equation right now. Well, the answer has to do with security purposes. However, it’s still unclear how the company will use the technology in order to make the phone safer.

In an era where most mobile users are highly concerned about security, Xiaomi is catering to their needs. According to the rumors flying around online, the Xiaomi Mi4c is a 5-inch 1080p device featuring a six-core Snapdragon 808 processor fitted with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16/32GB of internal storage.

The phone will come featuring a 13MP main camera plus a 5MP front-facing shooter, dual SIM and 4G LTE. The device will run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box with MIUI 7 ROM plastered on top.
