Xiaomi wants to take on Samsung’s Edge family

Samsung definitely started a trend when it unveiled the Galaxy Note Edge back at IFA 2014. The competition too has to keep up, and at CES 2015, we saw that LG teased a similar device with a curved dual display.

Well, it appears Xiaomi too is prepping a device designed to take on Samsung’s Edge family of devices. According to new info coming out of Chinese website Mobile Dad, the phone maker is gearing up to unveil a device that could arrive on the market as the Xiaomi Mi Edge.

Apparently, the phone should arrive with a 5.2-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution) manufactured by Sharp, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, and either 3GB or 4GB of RAM.

The report also mentions a fingerprint scanner and a 16MP main camera. It is pretty unlikely that Xiaomi will end up copying the “Edge” moniker so blatantly, but in the end, who knows?

We’re also told that the Mi Edge will almost certainly include some metal insertions in its build, but we currently don’t know if it will be made out of metal completely or only partly.

I related news, Xiaomi is expected to unveil its next-gen Mi5 flagship pretty soon. A Mi5 Plus version will arrive later on, as this model is poised to be the first phone to boast a Snapdragon 820. Could it be that Xiaomi might want to unveil the Mi Edge alongside it?
