With almost 50 million downloads in Google Play Store, Wikipedia for Android has just received a major update that brings new features and improvements.

The official Wikipedia app contains more than 32 million articles in 280 languages, which makes it the largest and most comprehensive reference work humans ever compiled, developers claim.

The latest update brings some important improvements to Material Design compliance, so long-time users will be able to notice these visual changes at first glance.

Another new feature implemented is link previews. Users will be able to tap on links to see a preview of the article, including a swipeable image thumbnail gallery, without losing their place while reading.

Also, developers introduced more options when pressing and holding links such as Save for offline reading, Share, and Copy.

The official changelog also mentions improved performance when rotating the screen and better ordering of search results. In addition, the update should enhance the behavior of offline saved pages.

Last but not least, with the latest version of Wikipedia for Android, users will be able to share a link to the current article directly from the overflow menu.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download Wikipedia for Android for free via Google Play Store. It should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.3.3 and up.
