It never hurts to have as many Netflix alternatives as you can possibly have, so production giant Viacom has just announced the advent of its new app Play Plex, which will cater to the needs of media streaming lovers.

Play Plex is a suite of mobile TV apps that give users access to all Viacom’s international television brands, including Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Channel, Spike and BET.

The service will go live in the fourth quarter of the year and will be available for owners of iOS and Android devices alike (as spotted at HD Satelit).

The service will be offered across 180 international territories, where Viacom International Media Networks operates TV channels.

Viacom already has deals with pay TV platforms like NOS in Portugal for the Nick-branded Play app, which will also be offered via Play Plex, while mutual launch efforts are being made with Foxtel in Australia and OSN in the Middle East and North Africa regions.

The Nick app launched back in 2013 in three markets and is about to be re-branded as Nick Play under the Viacom Play Plex. The production company is currently looking for new distribution partners, including mobile phone operators.

For the time being, Viacom hasn’t disclosed how much any of this will cost, but there’s plenty of time to do so, as the service won’t launch until the end of the year.
