Sony is trying to keep the 4K phone from overheating

Not so long ago, we told you that the newly unveiled Sony Xperia Z5 was spotted on the grounds at IFA 2015 with the following message on display: “Camera will now turn off temporarily to cool down.”

As you probably already know by now, the Xperia Z5 is being powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor, hence the overheating issues. We had hoped that learning from its Xperia Z3+ experience, Sony has come up with a fix, but by the looks of it, things aren’t so simple.

However, according to the folks of G for Games who spotted on Weibo an image showcasing that the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium has been subjected to a teardown, it seems like Sony is doing something about the overheating issues that come with the Snapdragon 810. At least with the highest-end model of the three.

As you can see in the image, in the upper side of the phone sits a dual heat pipe which is undeniably used to provide better ventilation for the pesky Snapdragon 810.

On top of that, Sony seems to have applied a lot of thermal paste on the inside of the Xperia Z5 Premium in order to make the device even less prone to overheating.

Sony has probably gone to all this trouble because the Xperia Z5 Premium also supports a massive 4K display. But it remains to be seen whether Sony’s efforts will amount to something palpable.
