While Google launched the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update yesterday, some devices are still getting updated to Android 5.xx Lollipop. It’s the case of the Sony Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua.

The two smartphones have been running Android 4.4.4 KitKat until now, so owners of these devices are probably super happy to finally be getting a taste of Material Design, even at a such late date.

Well, starting this week, the duo will receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop directly, as Sony has seemingly decided to jump over the Android 5.0 version straight to the latest Lollipop build. Apart from all the new UI features, the update also includes some new customization options, among which the fact that you now get finger control over the volume, silent and alerts functions.

LinkedIn integration is now available, as well as information about meetings and participants, which will show up in Calendar. Last but not least, you’ll be able to snap selfies remotely using Sony’s SmartWatch 3 product. What’s more, Sony is also taking the opportunity to patch the Stagefright vulnerability with this update.

As with most updates of this sort, we should expect this one to hit different users at different times, depending on their locations. So you might have to wait a few days or even weeks until your Sony Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua get the highly anticipated Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
