Sony is trying to make Android look and feel better

Sony has recently launched the “Concept for Android” initiative in Sweden and is inviting users to try out a stripped-down version of Android 5.1 that comes enriched with popular Sony features that are embedded directly into the OS.

Since only 500 Xperia Z3 owners will be able to test out the new Android iteration, most of us will have to wait some time before trying out “Concept for Android.”

But luckily, the first screenshots showing the major changes Sony is performing have already been made available to us (via Xperia Blog), so we can get a sense of what's coming our way.

At first sight, the software changes make the Xperia Z3 phone look very much like a Nexus device. However, you’ll soon spot Sony’s own Album, Camera and Calculator apps, which come pre-installed.

New updates will constantly be pushed to the software running on board the test units and they will hit the respective devices in the form of OTAs.

At this point, you should remember that this is an early release of “Concept for Android,” so until the public release gets finalized, a lot of things might be changed.

Sony is obviously experimenting with the pure Android view, and hopefully, it will stick to it until the end. But the opposite might happen and we could see the Japanese company go into a completely different direction.
