Snapchat is reportedly putting an end to its daily Local Stories feature for certain cities in an attempt to focus on live events. The feature allowed users to get videos of everyday activities, including concerts, shot by users in certain cities, like New York, San Francisco, and more.

The report comes from Bloomberg, who states that Snapchat has laid off about 15 employees who were in charge of curating Live Stories from user uploads in cities like New York and Los Angeles.

It seems that the Local Stories failed to gain at least the same amount of popularity as Snapchat’s other features. The report mentions that group stories will also be available but will focus only on big events.

Apparently, Snapchat has confirmed that some employees were laid off, but it hasn’t provided any specific numbers. In addition, the company has failed to mention whether its main Stories section will be affected as well.

Snapchat’s Local Stories has provided an interesting view as to what users from certain cities were doing, but considering the amount of video footage that Snapchat users can access, the section failed to gain popularity.

In addition, its Discover feature has been redesigned to be more predominant inside the app and offer content that would convince users to spend as much time inside the application as possible.

In fact, Snapchat’s Stories section is so popular that other major applications like Instagram decided to provide its users with similar features.
