Skype has just updated its BlackBerry application with a few visual and under-the-hood improvements, which promise to enhance the user experience even further.

The first thing mentioned by the official changelog is the fresh new look of the application, which is inspired by Google's Material Design.

This is likely to bring Skype for BlackBerry 10 in line with the Android version of the application which is available for download in the Google Play Store.

Although this seems to be the most important change implemented by the new update, there are others that have been confirmed by developers.

It appears that the new version of Skype for BlackBerry 10 brings new navigation improvements, so users will now be able to tap on the floating action button on the lower right to quickly make calls, send instant messages, or send a video message.

Also, the latest update introduces the new Search feature, which will allow users to easily find and keep track of the most important conversations and contacts.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download Skype for BlackBerry 10 for free via BlackBerry World. The application is compatible with all devices powered by BlackBerry 10 and up.

Keep in mind that while Skype is available for free, operator data charges may apply, so it's recommended to use an unlimited data plan or a Wi-Fi connection.
