Samsung Display is getting rather busy these days

Samsung is one company that loves to make its own things. The tech giant makes its own silicone (Exynos), has its own mobile operating system (Tizen), and by the looks of it, will also start producing protective coats for its smartphone products, much in the vein of Gorilla Glass.

How do we know this? Well, apparently, Samsung’s display division has recently applied to register a brand new display entitled “Turtle Glass,” which sounds very much like an alternative to Corning’s protective layer (as reported by Galaxy Club).

The technology might also get implemented in Samsung’s TVs, watches, and so on. Furthermore, we could even speculate that Samsung will use its Turtle Glass on the Galaxy S7 flagship, which is due out sometime in late February.

On the other hand, Samsung has been rumored to be readying the industry’s first handset with a foldable display, which is known as Project Valley internally. So could it be possible that this handset will come equipped with Turtle Glass instead? After all, the foldable panel is a very new and unique type of display and maybe Samsung needs something really special to protect it from getting mistreated.

The fabled smartphone we have been talking about ever since MWC 2014 has been rumored to make its first appearance in January 2016, interestingly, before the Galaxy S7.
