The phone is aimed at the South Korean market

Samsung might be the king of smartphones, but it seems that the Korean tech giant hasn’t forgotten the clamshell form factor. Actually, as it turns out, this sort of phones are pretty popular in South Korea, so this week the company is launching a new model in the country.

The newcomer is aptly called the Galaxy Folder and arrives into the wild with a 3.8-inch touchscreen display of unknown resolution. Moreover, the phone bundles an 8MP rear camera plus a 2MP frontal one, and Samsung also threw in 8GB of expandable storage.

The spec list also includes LTE, Wi-Fi and GPS, plus a 1,800 mAh battery under the hood, which is quite enough to sustain a 3.8-inch display.

The Galaxy Folder runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. As you can see, Samsung’s new clamshell is a worthy competitor for LG’s recently announced G Gentle.

Samsung’s new handset will become available for purchase next month with a price tag of $250 / €226 attached to it. However, we shouldn’t expect to see the flip phone arrive in markets outside of South Korea, which is a real shame if you’re into this particular form factor.

Expect the clamshell device to be offered in dark blue and white.
