The mid-range device offers pretty decent specs

Panasonic is best known for its camera gear manufacturing business, but not everyone knows that the company is also making phones.

That’s because the models produced so far by the device maker have seen very limited availability, sold mostly in markets like Japan or India.

Well, this week the company has unveiled a new smartphone from its middle-range lineup. We’re talking about the Panasonic P55 Novo, which makes a debut online with a 5.3-inch 720p (1280 x 720 pixel resolution) IPS display, which is pretty standard (as seen at NDTV).

The handset is powered by a mystery 1.4GHz octa-core SoC (probably from the MediaTek garden) in combination with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB of storage via microSD card).

The smartphone uses a 13MP camera located on the back that has a triple LED flash, which is a pretty nifty addition. There’s also a 5MP selfie shooter living up in front with a single LED flash available next to it.

Panasonic has bundled the phone with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, and it’s probably useless to hope that the device will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

The middle-range Panasonic P55 Novo is a pretty decent mid-ranger, and the good news is the company has decided to sell it for only $149 / €135 in India. Grab it in Champagne Gold, Midnight Blue or Smoke Gray.
