Last month, Samsung announced the new Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition and made the smartphone available for purchase to the general public. As an official sponsor of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Samsung gave away 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games units, together with wireless IconX earbuds.

Each athlete attending the Olympic Games received a Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition handset, except for those from North Korea, apparently. Digital Trends reports that the smartphones were given on August 5, during pre-Game festivities.

North Korean athletes were barred from participating, and they weren't allowed to carry Galaxy S7 units during the opening ceremony. To make sure that didn't happen, the North Korean team manager confiscated the devices so that athletes couldn't access the Samsung exhibition in which electronics were displayed. The athletes are yet to receive their gifts.

Considering tensions between the two countries, contestants from North Korea might not receive their Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic units too soon as officials from the country are known to confiscate various electronics from athletes so that they wouldn't have any contact with the outside world or for fear of defecting.

In addition, North Korean athletes aren't allowed to see places of interest or mix with others during the Rio 2016 Olympics. Even so, the country is a strong competitor, and it currently ranks on the 20th spot in this edition.
