We might also hear info about the Nokia-Meizu partnership

Even if Nokia is currently sitting on the outside of the smartphone market looking in, many mobile enthusiasts would love to see the Finnish company make a return to the world of handsets. And that’s exactly what Nokia plans to do in 2016.

But a new Nokia smartphone is still in the distant future. While we wait for that reality to happen, we’re going to share with you an interesting aspect. It appears that the company (Nokia Technologies to be exact) has started sending out invites to a mystery VIP event to be held in Los Angeles on July 28 (as seen at Android Headlines).

The slogan on the invite reads “Nowhere, now here” which obviously sounds like a reference to its mapping business, HERE Maps.

We previously told you that titans from the tech industry like Facebook, Apple, Uber and a German car consortium (including BWM, Audi or Mercedes) had shown interest in purchasing Nokia’s mapping service. Is it possible that the company might have reached a verdict and we’re going to find out which lucky bidder scored the deal with Nokia? Perhaps.

On top of that, Nokia might want to talk about the recent Alcatel-Lucent acquisition, which sediments the Finnish company’s ambitions of becoming a major provider of networking equipment.

Furthermore, we might hear Nokia reveal some details about the purported partnership with Meizu. We’ll just have to wait and see.
