Google made Android 7.0 Nougat available to Nexus devices at the end of August and offered its Pixel smartphones to users with Android 7.1 Nougat pre-installed. Just recently, Google started rolling out Android 7.1.1 Nougat Developer Preview, which comes with some changes.

Apparently, the multi-window feature is no longer present in the beta version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat, according to Android Police.

In the first Android N Developer Preview, Google made multiple useful gestures available for calling upon the multi-window feature. Users had to swipe up from the overview screen button in order to launch the multi-window mode.

The toggle is available on Pixel phones running Android 7.1, but the feature doesn’t seem to work. It’s also missing from the latest Developer Preview, where it had to be enabled from the System UI Tuner with a simple swipe-up gesture.

The feature might be a default one on Android, which is why it may have been removed from the beta version and will appear in the stable build.

However, there’s still the possibility that it won’t be coming back at all. We’ll just have to wait and see when the next build of Android 7.1 arrives.

Google introduced some new features in the 7.1.1 Developer Preview, one of which is the Phone app automatically switching to Do Not Disturb mode when entering a call. New UI changes were also made to the Phone app, and new notifications were introduced.
