Huawei unveiled the G8 mid-ranger not so long ago, a handset which arrives with a Snapdragon 615 processor out of the box. But in its home country, China, Huawei is launching the phone under the MaiMang 4 moniker. And with good reason.
The company has swapped out the Snapdragon 615 and placed a Snapdragon 616 chipset inside instead. This is probably the first time you hear of this chipset, so we’ll tell you a few things about it. For starters, the Snapdragon 616 features four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz plus four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.2GHz (as reported by Gizmo China).
In contrast, the Snapdragon 615 features the same 1.7GHz Cortex A-53 cores, the remaining ones, however, are clocked at only 1.0GHz. So apart from delivering a tad more speed, the Snapdragon 616 also offers more connectivity choices via the X5 LTE World Mode modem and features Cat.4 LTE speeds (up to 150Mbps).
What’s more, the MaiMang 4 offers a 5.5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and a 13MP/5MP camera combo. There’s a 3,000 mAh battery running the show and Android 5.1 Lollipop as the default operating system.
Customers can pick between a version with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which sells for approximately $338 / €304, and the 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage variation, which has a $402 / €363 price tag.
